The Caribbean Gets a Little Closer

Beginning February 23, Air Jamaica will introduce non-stop flights from New York City to St. Lucia on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays--nicely timed for a weekend getaway to beat those late-winter blues.

The new service reflects the mountainous island's eager scramble to meet the needs of booming tourism. All-inclusive resorts and boutique-style hotels such as Coco Palm (from $125/night, coco-resorts.com) have been sprouting up along the shore and 900 additional rooms are set to open by spring.

Jazz fans should save the date for St. Lucia's 15th annual outdoor Jazz Festival, May 5-14, which attracts a variety of big-name legends, R&B newcomers, and local musicians.
