Chelsea Pines Inn

About this Hotel

Price From $149

'Hood Chelsea, a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood full of good shopping, restaurants, and bars—many of them gay or at least gayish. The inn's enviable 14th Sreet location is just north of the West Village and just east of the fashionable Meatpacking District.

The Vibe Friendly and fun but never kitschy, this former sailors' boardinghouse is a good fit for travelers who don't require fussy amenities like room service or a swimming pool.

Rooms Modern additions like wall-mounted flat-screen TVs and iPod docks join older, signature flourishes like the dozens of vintage movie posters that brighten up the rooms and common areas.

Plus A generous continental breakfast is served on the small, sunny outdoor patio.

Minus There's no elevator in this five-story building. Rooms on the fourth and fifth floors are a little cheaper, but the stairs can be a bit of a challenge after a long day out on the city.

Free Wi-Fi? Yes.

Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, Diners Club, Discover, Mastercard, Visa.

Details The one-bedroom suites range from $259 to $399.
