About this Hotel

Price From $208

'Hood In the heart of Ipanema, a trendy neighborhood whose open-air bars are packed with 20- and 30-somethings. Ipanema Beach, popular with the surf crowd, is just around the corner from the hotel.

The Vibe A polished, if somewhat dated, hotel with a lobby that shows off elegant armchairs and fancy Persian rugs. Guests enjoy substantial daily breakfasts on the 23rd floor in an open room with panoramic ocean views, and they can mingle by night with well-heeled locals at the rooftop restaurant, Grill 360.

Rooms The 156 rooms share the elements of large windows and simple artwork above the beds. Some rooms are more colorful (patterned bedspreads) than others. Deluxe just means more space (the view is the same). Certain rooms have spruced-up bathrooms and furnishings; if you're placed in a room that seems subpar, ask if there's a better one available at the same rate.

Plus The hotel provides complimentary beach chairs, sun umbrellas, and towels. Plus, it's a great starting point for a bar crawl. First stop: Espelunca Chic (Maria Quitéria), a half block away.

Minus Staff can be pushy with city tours and other commission-based activities.

Free Wi-Fi? Yes, but the connection is slow for Wi-Fi; a faster cable connetion is available for $15 per day.

Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, MC, Visa.

Details Doubles from $208, lagoon-view rooms from $254, suites from $435. Rates include breakfast.
