About this Hotel
Price From $99
’Hood Thomas Circle, close to the White House and the offices of The Washington Post (the hotel conference rooms are called Woodward and Bernstein). The hotel is also near the up-and-coming 14th Street neighborhood, where you can find edgy boutiques and restaurants.
The Vibe Übercool and modern, Donovan House will make you feel hip, even if you’re not. The mood here is “swanky lounge,” complete with Lucite swing chairs in the lobby and retro furnishings in the rooms. It even has a requisite buzzed-about Asian-fusion restaurant (named Zentan) on site.
Rooms Bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows and, in some rooms, a signature cocoon spiral shower connecting the bathroom and bedroom. The hotel used to be a Holiday Inn, but the playful, minimalist decor shows no reminders of its past.
Plus The popular rooftop bar hosts a variety of exclusive parties open to the public (check the hotel's Facebook page for details), and their adjacent pool is a welcome oasis for families and singles alike. Beer, wine, and sushi are served at the swinging lobby happy hour every Wednesday from 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M.
Minus The place feels like a big party; if you don’t want to join it, you’ll feel left out. Watch out for hidden charges: Even the in-room coffee comes at a price.
Free Wi-Fi? Free in the lobby only; $11 for 24 hours of in-room access.
Credit Cards Accepted Amex, Discover, MC, Visa.
Details Check for special packages online; a Sunday night stay, for example, might get you a discount and complimentary breakfast. Don't be afraid to ask for an upgrade, especially on a weekend, when the hotel might not be full.
