Fly to Ireland for $249, with a weeklong car rental included

Here's the rarest of travel deals, the scenario in which buying a travel package with air and extras bundled together is cheaper than booking the flight by itself. This offer, valid for travel in late autumn, includes a flight to Dublin and a week-long car rental starting at $249 per person.

Both Go-Today.com and Virgin Vacations have the same package: For travel between November 1 and December 13, and from January 1 to March 25 of next year, the cost of a flight from New York's JFK to Dublin and a seven-day car rental starts at $249 per person based on two people traveling together. We quickly found availability at that rate for midweek November departures, and the grand total for two people, with taxes included, came to $664.30. Meanwhile, the best airfare we could find on that exact same flight—nonstop service on Delta—was $347 per person, or $694 for two people. Yep, you'd pay roughly $30 less by booking the package with wheels for a week.

Info about add-on flights from other cities is available at Go-Today.com or Virgin-Vacations.com. The same fly-drive package is available this summer and fall, but you'll pay more for the chance at better weather on the Emerald Isle—from $829 per person in July and August, and from a very reasonable $339 in September. The deadline for booking is May 29.
