Fares: Microsoft mysteriously buys Farecast

Microsoft bought the airfare-prediction website Farecast for about $115 million this week. The free service helps travelers decide whether they should buy a ticket now or wait and hope that the price drops. It's not clear what Microsoft plans to do with the company.

We've blogged about Farecast often, from its official debut predictions of domestic airfares to its expanded coverage of international airfares and hotel rates. We'll keep you posted on any future innovations.
