Watch out Jetsetter and other invitation-only discount travel websites. There's a new guy in town looking to steal some of your bargain-hunting clientele.
BonVoyou.com—a vacation discount club started by three former Orbitz employees earlier this year—caters to vacationers searching for deals at luxury and boutique hotels. The timeless adage "It's all about who you know" is alive and well at BonVoyou. To take advantage of the bargains, you have to be invited to join or know someone who is already a member.
BonVoyou claims to offer hotel savings of up to 50 percent. Every day BonVoyou lists two or three sales that last about five days each. With the discounted price, however, comes a decreased window of availability. Most "sales" are only available three months from the current date.
The site's "discounts" are relative. Purchasing a room at BonVoyou is comparable to shopping for shoes at Nordstrom Rack: It's still pricy, just not as pricy. BonVoyou provides discounts off of luxury and boutique hotels, so the prices aren't exactly what you would call "bargain." For instance, this week's sales include 30 percent off at The James in Chicago and 30 percent off at The Liaison Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. Base room rates for two people, however, range from $150 to $185 per night before taxes.
So if you can score an invite (and handle the price) BonVoyou just might mean a good trip for you.
